  • Driver and Traffic Safety Education involves all those learning experiences provided for the purpose of helping students learn to use motor vehicles safely, efficiently, and effectively. This objective is achieved through sequences of interrelated experiences involving both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. NC Law requires 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.

The Cumberland County Schools offer Driver Education after school hours during the Fall and Spring semesters and two summer sessions are offered annually.   Check  Dates to Remember for the dates that the sessions will be offered for the coming school year.  The practical or behind-the-wheel phase of the course is offered after school hours and/or on Saturday during the school year and concurrent with the classroom phase in the summer.
