The World Language course of study at the middle school level begins with exploratory programs in French, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. Not all languages are currently offered at all schools, but Spanish is predominant throughout. Anne Chesnutt Middle School, in addition to offering courses in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, offers Spanish Immersion and Spanish for Native Speakers. Spanish Immersion is also offered at New Century International Middle School.
Exploratory programs begin in grade 6, Exploratory I, and continue to grade 7, Exploratory II. Sequential World Language programs begin in grade 7 and continue through high school. Part I is taught in grade 7, and Part II is taught in grade 8. Also taught in grade 8 are more rigorous, advanced courses that allow participants to qualify for high school credit upon completion.
