Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books
Coordinator: Jenna Jones & Martha Jones
Description: To foster a love of reading by providing a team to compete at the district and regional competitions. Students are responsible for reading selected books for comprehension, becoming familiar with the characters and stories. Students memorize titles and authors, write BOB formatted questions that cover the books they read, and discuss the books with others in the club. Out of the initial group, a team of 8 – 12 students will be chosen to represent the school in the BOB competition. The competition resembles a spelling bee type format in which students are asked a question about a book. The correct response is always the title and author of the book.
Meeting Time & Location: The BOB club meets 2:30 – 3:30 every Wednesday
Member Qualifications: Any student in grades 4 – 5 who enjoy reading.

Beta Club
Beta Club
Coordinator: Wanda Kindell
Description: BETA club is a service organization that gives students opportunities to give back to the community.
Meeting Time & Location: We meets every Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Member Qualifications: Any student in 5th grade that is in good academic standing.

Coordinator: Mario Matarese
Description: Students are responsible for raising, lowering, and maintaining the United States flag and North Carolina flag daily. Students also post both flags for special school programs.
Meeting Time & Location: During school hours; every morning and afternoon at the front of the school.
Member Qualifications: Any student in grades 3 – 5 that are dependable, reliable, and in good academic standing.

Gentleman of Distinction Club
Gentlemen of Distinction Club
Coordinator: Joseph Fankibi, Assistant Principal
Description: This club is open to students in grades 3 – 5. The Gents of Distinction Club will teach our young boys the traits they need to become responsible leaders of tomorrow.
Meeting Time & Location: The Gents of Distinction will meet every Thursday from 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. in the gym.
Member Qualifications: Students in grade 3 – 5 that truly want to become a strong leader need to apply. Students must return their signed permission form in order to be accepted in the club.

Safety Patrol
Safety Patrol
Coordinator: Kelly Henry
Description: Safety patrol students monitor the hallways each morning to ensure that students are walking in a quiet and orderly manner.
Meeting Time & Location: During school hours; report to their duty stations no later than 7:30 a.m.
Member Qualifications: Any student in grade 5 that is responsible and in good academic standing. The student must exhibit good behavior choices to be recommended by his or her homeroom teacher.

Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad
Coordinator: Kristen Schue
Description: To enrich and enhance the opportunities in science education for elementary school students. Students work collaboratively to solve problems using scientific methods. Students also are prepared to compete in the county competition held each school year.
Meeting Time & Location: The club meets every Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the Science lab.
Member Qualifications: Any student in grades 3 – 5 that have a passion for science. Students must exhibit good behavior choices during the school day and be in good academic standing.

Singing Explorers Choir
Singing Explorers Choir
Coordinator: Music Teacher
Description: This choir provides students an opportunity to make music outside of the regular music classroom setting. The Singing Explorers program is designed to enhance the musical, creative and expressive qualities of all students. Being part of a choir gives students a sense of pride, and provides them with the basic skills they need to work as part of a team. The choir will perform at various school events throughout the school year.
5th Grade Choir members will have the opportunity to audition to participate in the All County Chorus in the Spring. More information will be provided.
Meeting Time & Location: Practices are every Tuesday from 2:30-3:30 pm in the music room.
Member Qualifications: Any student in grades 3-5 who has an interest in ensemble singing. Continued choir membership depends on excellent school attendance, appropriate classroom behavior, and acceptable classroom work.
