The purpose of the Writing Club is to meet with peers and workshop creative pieces. There are weekly workshops submitted by the students. One to two students will submit a story (or portion of a story) once a week. During the week the other members will read and critique the submission, and on Wednesday we workshop the piece. The goal is to not only strengthen the students editing and writing skills but also to enhance their storytelling skill set.

The National Honor Society is a nationally affiliated organization established in 1921 for outstanding and distinguished high school students. Each chapter within the organization, as recognized by the National Council, establishes its rules for membership based on a student’s outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four components are the foundation for the organization.
NHS members are student role models. Members strive in every way by word and deed, to make their ideas, the ideals of the school and those whom they influence on a daily basis. Our students pledge to endeavor intelligently and courageously, in order to advocate lifelong learning and leadership principles within their communities. National Honor Society members aim high for scholastic aptitude with a desire for mastery of skill and achievement. They are the leaders and trailblazers of Douglas Byrd High School.
