‘Reimagining the Cumberland Commitment’: 2022 Annual Report to the Community
The year 2021 was a period of readjustment and reintegration. As the district transitioned back to in-person learning, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) remained dedicated to providing a safe, positive, and rigorous learning environment to prepare lifelong learners to reach their maximum potential. The Cumberland Commitment: Strategic Plan 2024 is continuing strong and the district is taking great strides toward accomplishing the goals set in all four priority areas: Successful Students, Premier Professionals, Exceptional Environment, and Committed Community.
In this sometimes strange ‘new normal,’ adaptability to evolving circumstances is paramount for any plan’s success. As such, CCS is “Reimagining The Cumberland Commitment,” to ensure equitable experiences for every student.
CCS was honored to win three equity-related awards in 2021, including two first-place awards through the 27th Magna Awards, the 2021 EVERFI Empowered Seal, and the Purple Star District Award. These awards highlight CCS’ commitment to making sure every child has the opportunity to receive a high-quality and robust education.
CCS congratulated the first graduating class of Cumberland Virtual Academy as they and the rest of last year’s 3,484 graduates walked across the same stage during 34 in-person ceremonies that spanned eight days.
In 2021 alone, 13 Premier Professionals won local, state and national “Of the Year” titles in their fields. From federal leaders learning best practices from CCS students to a CCS teacher winning a grant from NASA, the CCS community certainly demonstrated its excellence in 2021.
Most importantly, regardless of the challenge, the district’s Committed Community, consisting of the district’s students, employees, families, and community partners, has remained dedicated to CCS’ vision: Every student will have equitable access to engaging learning that prepares them to be competitive, collaborative, and successful in our global world.
