COUNSELING TEAM:
Professional school counselors are certified/licensed educators with a minimum of a Master’s degree in school counseling making them uniquely qualified to address students’ cognitive, socio-emotional and career development needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. They also provide consultation, individual and group counseling, academic advisement. North Carolina Virtual Public Schools
Check out this site if you are interesting in taking an online class. You must have at least 2.5 gpa to take an online class at PFHS. The online class is to be taken at home, with an adequate computer and internet service. A contract must be completed with your counselor.

ACT Information
ACT Information for Parents and Students
Pine Forest will offer a test session for juniors in the Fall (optional but recommended, see Mr. Davis for more detail), and a required session for juniors in the Spring. Outside of these times, students wanting to take the ACT will need to sign up and register through the ACT website. -
SAT Information
SAT Information For Parents and Students
The SAT is optional. Students must register for this test through the link provided. Pine Forest does not offer the SAT at the school.

Social Worker
School Social Worker- Latoya McKoy
School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals with a Bachelors or Master’s degree in social work. They are the link between the home, school, and community. School social workers provide direct as well as indirect services to students, families and school personnel such as monitoring school attendance, promoting dropout prevention, consultation, information and referral, identification of at-risk students, and counseling. In addition, they provide prevention, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.

School psychologists are highly trained in both psychology and education, completing a minimum of a specialist-level degree program. They provide assessment and testing of students for special services, consultation for teachers and counseling for students. In addition, they provide prevention, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and program modification for special learning and/or behavioral needs.

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success and life-long achievement and health of students. School nurses facilitate health services such as immunizations, communicable disease control, vision and hearing screening, and follow-up, health assessments, and referrals, and health counseling and information for students and families. School nurses actively collaborate with school personnel, students and parents to create health plans and to administer medication.

School Exceptional Children Case Teacher -TBA
Phone: 910-488-2384Times Available: Call for an appointmentThe EC Case Teacher can address concerns for students eligible for special education services. They can verify service implementation and communicate with the student’s team to meet their academic and functional needs. In addition, she can coordinate Child Find. This is a coordinated effort between the Student Services Team and the Exceptional Children Services to locate and identify children and youth suspected of or diagnosed with a disability who might have intellectual, physical, or emotional disabilities and are unable to benefit from the regular school program without special assistance.

The military family and youth liaison (MFYL) acts as a communication link between the installation and the school district in order to ease the transition for the military students. The MFYL coordinates and supports efforts to: assess needs, build awareness of resources, and connect those with needs to supportive solutions. -

The MSTC is a highly specialized education professional embedded with the school district. The MSTC is assigned specific schools like Pine Forest High School to provide assistance to military-connected students with needs related to increasing support system for social-emotional well-being and transition. The MSTC performs activities and delivers professional development within the school and community to support this goal. The MSTC works directly with children and parents on a daily basis. MSTCs are expected to be subject matter experts on numerous issues to assist our military-connected families – active duty, veteran, retired, National Guard/Reserves, or Civil Service employees.
The Military Student Transitions Consultant is available to:- Help all students successfully navigate the academic, emotional and behavioral stressors, that may negatively impede the learning experience.
- Reduce the number of disciplinary infractions in an effort to maximize classroom time, and enhance learning opportunities.
- Facilitate positive social development, as well as aid in the behavioral and academic success of all students.

Child and Youth Behavioral Military & Family Life Counseling Program

Pine Forest is now equipped with an additional program to support our military connected children and families. This program will serve actively connected military students and families of any branch of our military and those separated within the past 180 days. The Child and Youth Behavioral Military & Family Life Counseling Program has provided a counselor to address the unique challenges faced by military families. This service will be private and confidential non-medical counseling at school. The counselor will also be a referral source should our students and families have needs that require outside referrals. The counselor may assist with the following type of issues; such as communication, self-esteem, confidence, resolving conflicts, behavioral management techniques, deployment and reintegration issues, transition skills and academic skills. The counselor will need a signed consent form turned in to the MFLC counselor in the guidance department in order to support students who meet qualifications for the program.
