As the start of the traditional school year approaches, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) took a "big step" toward strengthening family engagement by hosting the second annual Family Ambassador Symposium on Thursday in the Board Room of the Central Services building.
Around 40 attendees gathered during both the morning and afternoon sessions to receive key information as well as gain valuable insights, tools and strategies to enhance family involvement in their children's education. The symposium, which is now a cornerstone event for the district, continues to build on the success of the previous year.
"We are committed to ensuring that our Family Ambassadors are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the upcoming school year," said Dr. Lindsay Whitley, the associate superintendent of CCS Communications & Community Engagement. "Engaging families as partners in education is crucial, and we are confident that our Ambassadors will continue to foster these essential connections."
The Family Ambassador Program, which launched in January 2023, remains focused on five key goals: (1) providing families with the resources they need to support their children's success, (2) increasing awareness of the district's academic programs tailored to each child's unique learning style, (3) creating meaningful opportunities for family engagement, (4) fostering a positive and welcoming school environment, and (5) offering schools research-based support for family engagement efforts.
