Chess is used to develop strategic and critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and competitive maturity. The Ponderosa Chess Club meets each Wednesday and is open to Ponderosa Elementary School students in grades 3-5. This is an excellent way for beginners to learn how to play chess while providing experienced players with the opportunity to participate in both recreational and competitive matches. Knowledge of chess is not required. Students learn to play and enjoy chess while experiencing healthy competition and team spirit.
