Autism is a developmental disability characterized by difficulties and abnormalities in several areas: communication, social relationships, cognitive function, sensory processing and/or behavior. Many individuals with autism have average or above average intelligence. Others function in the range of borderline to mild cognitive disability or moderate to severe cognitive disability.People with autism often exhibit scattered skills. Most people with autism show a pattern of relative or even significant strengths, usually in certain aspects of memory or visual perception.
