Kids on steps The Resource Program provides services to students with disabilities who follow the North Carolina Standard Course of Study curriculum and are assigned to a general education classroom.
    Service models include:

    Regular setting (general skills) -
the special education teacher works cooperatively with the general education teacher to provides services in the general education classroom.

Direct Resource Services (targeted skills specialized instructions) - the special education teacher provides direct and alternative instruction in the Resource room. This service is with other students receiving IEP service.

Consultative – the special education teacher monitors the student’s progress and consults directly/indirectly with the student and the general education teacher.

Depending upon the needs of the student, a combination of service delivery models may be implemented. For many students with mild to moderate learning disabilities, accommodations and/or modifications are implemented to ensure access to the general curriculum. The same learning expectations for students in general education are appropriate for learning disabled students; however, students with learning disabilities often meet their learning goals at different times and in a different manner than students in general education.

To the maximum extent appropriate, children with disabilities are educated with children who are non-disabled.  Learning disabilities are unexpected significant difficulties in academic achievement and related area of learning and behavior in students who have not responded to high quality instructions and intervention and whose difficulties cannot be attributed to medical, educational environment or psychiatric causes.
