The Visually Impaired (VI) Program serves pre-school and school age students who have a visual acuity of 20/70 or worse in the best corrected eye that is educationally significant. We serve a diverse student population including students who have limited/low vision, are blind, and students with multiple challenges that access print through tactile modes (braille), visual modes (large print), and/or auditory channels (audio text).
The VI program is staffed with highly qualified teachers (TVI), educational assistants and Orientation and Mobility Specialist (O&M), to meet the needs of individual students across the full continuum of service delivery options.
In addition, Cumberland County Schools partners with the NC Division of Services for the Blind (DSB) to provide transition services to students with visual impairments that are 14 years and older.
