Cumberland County Driver Education teaches Driver Education safety to students who are between the ages of 14 ½ years old, up to 18 years of age, and are actively enrolled in public, private, charter, or licensed home schools within Cumberland County.
The first 75 applications at each high school will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are dated and time-stamped.
The first 35 applications in each virtual class will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The virtual classes consist of private, charter and home school students.
Are approved by the principal of the school.
Note: Cumberland County Schools will no longer allow a student to enroll in a Driver Education course if the student has previously failed the course.
By North Carolina Law, students who are 18 years old or older are not required to take Driver Education. They may apply for a learner’s permit or license at any NC DMV office. However, they may register for the 30 hours of classroom instruction, and must secure an NC Learner’s Permit before they are scheduled for the 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.
