Cumberland County Schools Announces Schedule Changes in Anticipation of Inclement Weather

August 6, 2024

According to the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Debby is forecasted to make landfall in the Cumberland County region on Wednesday, with the possibility of heavy rainfall and sustained winds into the weekend. Out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of our students, employees and families in mind, the following adjustments will be made to Cumberland County Schools’ (CCS) operations:

  • Normal Instructional Day - August 7: CCS will operate on a normal instructional day schedule on Wednesday, August 7, for the year-round schools currently in session and the first instructional day for Early Colleges on the campus of Fayetteville State University.

  • Asynchronous Remote Learning Days: Thursday, August 8 and Friday, August 9, will be asynchronous remote learning days for CCS students at schools currently in session.

  • After-School Activities/Athletics: All after-school activities, including athletic practices and events scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, through Saturday, August 10, are canceled. However, morning workouts are allowed on Wednesday, August 7.

  • Prime Time Schedule: The Prime Time After-School program will operate until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7; however, it will be closed on Thursday, August 8, and Friday, August 9.

  • District/School Offices: CCS employees at year-round schools and Early Colleges will telework on Thursday, August 8, and Friday, August 9. On these days, district and school offices will be closed. Additionally, district and school staff following the summer schedule will telework on Thursday, August 8, and be off on Friday, August 9. Employees should contact their supervisors for additional guidance.

During an asynchronous remote learning day, students work independently on assignments that are assigned by their teachers. Elementary and middle school students will have five days to complete and submit their assignments, and high school students will have three days.

The safety of students, staff and their families remains the district’s top priority. CCS’ inclement-weather plan focuses on the safety of students and staff. Visit the district's website and social media pages for updates.
