Department Overview

  • The mission of the Title VI Office of Indian Education (OIE) is to support the efforts of targeted schools to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) so that these students can achieve to the same challenging state standards as all students.

    Every child can learn, and every school can succeed.  We have a moral obligation to ensure that we are providing Indian Children with the quality education that they deserve.  This redesign is a critical step in supporting each Tribe’s capacity to educate future generations of students who are prepared for college and a career and know and value their heritage.” – Bureau of Indian Education Director Monty Roessel.

    The office of Indian Education provides services to students K-12 to include: attendance monitoring, academic enrichment, financial assistance with SAT and college applications and NASA club for high school students. 

  • Native American Heritage Month is ending, but our commitment to honoring the heritage of Native Americans goes on. Watch this video featuring our Office of Indian Education as it works to honor the heritage and culture of Native Americans.
